Help Make Us Stronger

The team pays dues and does a variety of fundraisers every season to fund the majority of the overall budget. We rely on the Friends, parents and other donors to provide equipment and travel opportunities that keep us competitive with the other top club teams in the country. Recent donations have provided a new eight and buses to races. For the 2024-25 season, we are raising money to purchase a new four and a new racing eight.

The Friends of Minnesota Crew also provide nutrition for the team when they travel to races. Feeding 60 hungry men and women on the road is not easy, but the parents do an outstanding job of providing warm food at cold regattas and snacks for the long travel home. Friends of Minnesota Crew, Inc.

Friends of Minnesota Men’s Crew Club, Inc. “Friends” was formed in September of 2013. Through engagement and collaboration with alumni and friends of the team, we work to connect and inspire the community of rowing enthusiasts to support and promote men's rowing at the University of Minnesota. 

In July of 2014, the Friends of Minnesota Crew was granted 501(c)(3) tax exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service, thus making contributions to the Friends of Minnesota Crew tax-deductible for federal income tax purposes. The Friends of Minnesota Crew raise money for the Club through specific fundraising events and through direct appeals for funds. These fundraising efforts target the alumni, parents and other supporters of the Club. Fundraising events include sale of concessions at “home” regattas and parent’s weekends, sale of Club merchandise, and soliciting donations of food and other refreshments for the Club’s use at regattas. The Friends of Minnesota Crew is run entirely by volunteers. These volunteers are parents of current Club members, Club members and alumni of the Club. Please join us in supporting the Club!

What do we do for the rowing team?

  • Generate and channel financial aid for UMN Crew

  • Communicate current events and news with parents, alumni, and supporters

  • Organize meals and athlete nutrition at regattas


Rent-A-Rower

Minnesota Crew uses fundraising events such as "Rent a Rowers" to support the sport of rowing and its athletes at the University of Minnesota. Moving, gardening/weeding, landscaping, mowing, raking, and shoveling are the most common requests we receive. Our services are offered in exchange for a tax-deductible donation of $20/hour/rower.
